KHA is pleased to share its annual Workforce Survey Report, which provides an in-depth look at Kentucky’s non-physician hospital workforce. This year’s report shows continued improvement in statewide hospital workforce vacancies, with the vacancy rate declining to 8.5 percent, compared to 8.9 percent the year before, signaling continued stabilization after several years of higher vacancy rates.
Despite this improvement, workforce challenges remain for hospitals across the Commonwealth. Although the registered nurse vacancy rate remained the same at 11.5 percent, significant shortages remain for medical-surgical, psychiatric, and pediatric nurses. The report also identifies regional workforce pressures, including nursing assistant shortages and specific service-line challenges among imaging technicians. It also highlights localized needs for medical laboratory staff, mental health technicians, and respiratory therapists, as well as substantial workforce turnover.
KHA thanks all participating hospitals and health systems for supporting this important annual analysis. Your participation helps KHA identify workforce trends, inform policy discussions, and support statewide efforts to strengthen Kentucky’s hospital workforce. We encourage you to review the full report for additional details, including district-level findings, employee benefits and pay, workforce priorities, and partners.
