Special KHA Quality Webinar: Reduction of Primary Cesarean Birth

Reducing unnecessary primary cesarean births remains one of the greatest opportunities to improve maternal and newborn outcomes. Join the Kentucky Hospital Association on Wednesday, August 12, from 1:00–2:30 p.m. EDT for a Special KHA Quality Webinar:  Reduction of Primary Cesarean Birth. This virtual education session is available exclusively to KHA member birthing hospitals, and will be focused on evidence-based strategies that can help hospitals safely reduce C-section rates while supporting excellent patient outcomes.

Target Audience: Clinical Leaders, Quality Leaders, Perinatal Care Professionals, Obstetrical Services Providers, Maternal-Newborn/ Labor and Delivery Nurses, Nurse and Clinical Educators

During this session, participants will:

  • Review the evidence behind reducing unnecessary primary cesarean births and improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.
  • Explore labor management strategies and standardized clinical practices that support safe vaginal birth while ensuring timely cesarean delivery when medically indicated.
  • Learn quality improvement approaches that strengthen multidisciplinary teamwork, patient-centered communication, and the use of performance data to improve NTSV (Nulliparous, Term, Singleton, Vertex) cesarean birth rates.

The session will be led by Debra Ray, MSN, RNC-OB, Nurse Consultant for the Kentucky Perinatal Quality Collaborative (KyPQC). With more than 45 years of experience in labor and delivery nursing, nursing leadership, education, and statewide maternal quality improvement, Ray brings extensive expertise in evidence-based obstetric practice and reducing primary cesarean births.

In addition, KHA is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN), and offers 1.8 CE contact hours for nurses who attend this virtual learning session.

Whether your organization is actively working to lower its C-section rate or simply looking to strengthen maternity care practices, this session will provide practical strategies you can begin applying immediately.

Continuing Education: The Kentucky Hospital Association is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN). KBN approval of a continuing nursing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content. This educational activity is offered for 1.8 contact hours, with offering number 5-0023-12-27-16, expiration date 12-31-27. No partial credit will be given. To receive credit, participants must attend the entire educational offering, provide their nursing license number, and complete the offering evaluation. After the conclusion of this webinar, a Survey Monkey evaluation link will be sent to attendees. Attendees will have a deadline of August 19, 2026 to complete the survey in order to receive the CEU certificate. Failure to complete any step in the process outlined above will result in non-issuance of CEU credit in accordance with KBN guidelines.
