On August 27, Governor Andy Beshear signed a proclamation officially declaring the month of September as Sepsis Awareness Month. Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming response to infection and is a life-threatening condition which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, or possibly death. This disease is a national health crisis affecting 1.7 million Americans every year. Sepsis Awareness Month brings awareness to this life-threatening disease, acknowledges survivors and honors those who have lost their life to sepsis.
