Via lecture and power point presentation, this virtual offering will cover an array of topics, including the DEA registration and application process, closed system of distribution and diversion in hospital settings, recordkeeping requirements and DEA inspections, identifying effective controls against diversion, and current trends and community outreach.
Objectives– At the conclusion of this offering, attendees will be able to:
- Discuss the scope and impact of controlled substance diversion in healthcare facilities.
- Describe the most commonly diverted controlled substances and how they are diverted in health care facilities.
- Explain the closed system of distribution and how maintaining CSA compliance reduces the risk of controlled substance diversion.
- Provide examples of preventive measures a hospital can take to safeguard against controlled substance diversion.
- Explain the legal obligations facilities must comply with regarding the theft or diversion of controlled substances.
Target Audience: Executive hospital leaders, Legal/Compliance, Pharmacists, Nurses, and all other clinical leaders.

- The Kentucky Hospital Association is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN). KBN approval of a continuing nursing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content. To receive credit, participants must attend the entire educational offering, provide their nursing license number, and complete the offering evaluation. After the conclusion of this webinar, a Survey Monkey evaluation link will be sent to attendees. Attendees will have a deadline of August 19th, 2025, to complete the survey in order to receive the CEU certificate. Failure to complete any step in the process outlined above will result in non-issuance of CEU credit in accordance with KBN guidelines.
