Pulse of Surgery is an interactive health care career exploration program that allows students to observe a live open-heart surgery streamed from a hospital operating room while engaging with the surgical team in real time. Delivered in partnership with the Kentucky Science Center and University of Louisville Health, the program provides an authentic view of the operating room environment, surgical procedures, and the diversity of health care professions and pathways that make these lifesaving surgeries possible. The program can be experienced onsite at the Kentucky Science Center or streamed live to classrooms, increasing access for rural and underserved communities. Students may ask questions during the procedure and participate in optional extension activities, including conversations with medical students and hands-on learning focused on human anatomy and physiology. Pulse of Surgery supports early workforce development by increasing awareness of career pathways in medicine, surgery, medical technology, and allied health fields while reinforcing cardiovascular health, the importance of healthy lifestyles, and human physiology concepts.
