Hospital Data Reports

The Kentucky Hospital Association provides data reports to its members and the public, providing facts and statistics on important issues such as hospital economic impact, workforce projections and shortages, quality & safety data, sepsis, and more.

Why Are Hospital Data Reports Important?

Data reports are crucial to understanding issues facing hospitals across the Commonwealth, and are often used to educate legislators and the general public. Additionally, data reports are often necessary to meet reporting requirements by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and other agencies.

What Types of Hospital Data Reports Are Available from KHA?

KHA releases periodic publicly available reports with high-level data on the economic impact of Kentucky hospitals. Hospitals are not only crucial to the Commonweath for providing high-quality patient care, but also employ thousands of workers, generate tax revenue for state and local governments, support Kentucky businesses through purchases of goods and services, and provide charity care for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens. Hospitals also invest in their physical plants to enhance patient care, creating a significant number of jobs for the local community. Economic impact reports tailored to individual hospitals are also available to KHA member hospitals.

As Kentucky hospitals face an unprecedented workforce shortage, KHA has developed data reports that give an overview of the scope of this challenge. KHA’s annual Workforce Survey report provides an in-depth look at non-physician workforce employment data. Also, KHA has issued a Nurse Workforce Projections report, seeking to quantify the degree of shortfall and determine predictions for future supply and demand for nurses in the state.

KHA DataGen reports are Medicare-related reports available to KHA members only. These reports give hospitals critical data to assess the impact of proposed (and final) Medicare regulations and legislative initiatives. Hospitals with acute, critical access, home health, LTC, SNF, psychiatric and/or rehabilitation services are eligible to receive reports.

Other data reports available from KHA include reports on the impact of Sepsis in Kentucky hospitals.

What Are the Data Tools Available From KHA?

KHA offers an array of tools to assist its hospital members:

KHA InfoSuite is an online data decision support system available to KHA members for obtaining information from KHA’s statewide inpatient and outpatient Limited Data Set. Data from KHA InfoSuite has been used to develop data visualizations on Annual Discharges, Average Length of Patient Stay (by age and area), Patient Location, Annual Outpatient visits, and more.

Kentucky Quality Counts is the Quality Data Collection tool for KHA and the Kentucky Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. It is an online system that securely allows for submission, collection and editing of all outcome and process measures for quality reporting.

KY IPOP (Kentucky Inpatient and Outpatient) data collection is an online system that securely allows for submission, collection, and editing of Inpatient and Outpatient case level data from facilities, as required by statute and administrative regulation, to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

KHA’s Longitudinal Analysis program supports hospital efforts to improve care delivery and patient outcomes by providing data analytics to evaluate patient-level utilization of services across the continuum of care.
