SUMMARY:KHA Town Hall: Talk is Cheap! Getting Better Results through Effective Communication
DESCRIPTION:Please join KHA for a Town Hall on September 9 on Talk is Cheap! Getting Better Results through Effective Communication. Yes\, it’s true; talk IS cheap! Words do matter; but where do the words come from? What and how we communicate originates from our personal vision and beliefs. We drill down; evaluating our true beliefs so that effective\, passionate communication is natural. \nThis session will provide you with the knowledge to: \n\nExplore how our beliefs either help or interfere with the impact of our communication.\nLearn how to use our emotions\, beliefs and goals as the foundation of highly effectively communication.\nHow to use questions to create “aha moments” and confidence as communication “jet fuel”.\n\nSpeaker:\nBrian Garver\nSenior Vice President\nKeyBridge Medical Revenue Care \nFor Zoom information\, please contact Lauren Wheatley at KHA at lwheatley@kyha.com.

SUMMARY:KYSOS Outpatient Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join KYSOS Outpatient to learn more about the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program (KPAP).  The KY Department for Public Health (KDPH) notes that if individuals are struggling to cover the cost of prescriptions the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program (KPAP) may be able to help qualifying individuals identify sources of free and low-cost medications offered by pharmaceutical companies. The process reduces paperwork and offers more direct access to programs. \nIf you are interested in attending this webinar\, please contact Shanna Jaggers (sjaggers@kyha.com) or Marilyn Connors (mconnors@kyha.com). \n\nJennifer Toribio Naas\, CSW\, CCHW\, is the Health Program Administrator for the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program\, which is part of the Kentucky Department for Public Health. She holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky and is a Certified Social Worker as well as a Certified Community Health Worker. With a strong foundation in both clinical and community health practice\, Jennifer has dedicated her career to helping Kentuckians overcome barriers to accessing life-saving medications and advancing health equity in rural and low-income communities. Her work bridges public health policy and frontline community support\, ensuring that vulnerable residents receive the resources they need to live healthier lives. \nBryant Hileman\, is the Western Kentucky Community consultant and supervisor for the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program\, which is part of the Kentucky Department for Public Health. Bryant is experienced in community outreach and organizing based on the CAP (Chicago Area Project) model of empowering  community stakeholders. Bryant has dedicated the past 17 years of his career to helping organizations in Kentucky overcome the challenges of advancing health equity in rural and low-income communities. \nPresentation Description: \nAccess to affordable medications remains a critical barrier to health equity for many Kentuckians\, particularly those who are uninsured\, underinsured\, or managing chronic conditions. The Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program (KPAP) is a vital\, state-supported resource designed to help eligible patients obtain necessary prescription medications at low or no cost. \nThis session will provide an in-depth overview of KPAP\, including its operational structure\, eligibility criteria\, and the role it plays in supporting healthcare providers and improving patient outcomes. Special emphasis will be placed on how hospitals\, clinics\, and discharge planners can integrate KPAP into their continuum of care efforts to reduce readmissions\, increase treatment adherence\, and enhance the overall patient experience. \nLearning Objectives: \nBy the end of this session\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the core functions and services offered by the Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program\, including who is eligible and how to refer patients.\nDiscuss the challenges and systemic barriers Kentuckians face in accessing affordable prescription medications—and how KPAP addresses these issues.\nEvaluate opportunities for incorporating KPAP referrals into hospital discharge planning\, care coordination\, and social services workflows.\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:KHA Quality Webinar: Emergency Services and Obstetrical Obligations: CMS Hospital Conditions of Participation 2025
DESCRIPTION:Emergencies happen every day in a hospital – and not just in the emergency department. Regardless of a hospital’s size or location\, provisions must be in place to address and treat emergency care issues for patients\, including obstetrical patients. Every hospital that has a dedicated emergency department and accepts Medicare and Medicaid payment must follow the federal law and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation Interpretive Guidelines on the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). Even hospitals without such emergency departments must comply with EMTALA if they have specialized capabilities; for example\, EMTALA can impact obstetrical patients and behavioral health patients. \nPlease join the KHA quality team in welcoming special guest speaker\, Laura Dixon\, BS\, JD\, RN\, CPHRM\, to discuss the above challenges. Laura’s program will provide information on CMS requirements for hospitals to meet both emergency services\, including the recently implemented maternal safety standards\, and a brief recap of EMTALA. \n\nKHA MEMBERS: CLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n\n Objectives: \n\nDescribe the requirement for emergency services in an acute hospital to be integrated into other services\nRecall the newly implemented requirements for emergency obstetrical care\nRecall the required14 emergency department written policies that must be present in a Critical Access Hospital\nRecall that hospitals must also comply with EMTALA requirements in addition to emergency services requirements\n\nWho Should Attend?\nCEOs\, Chief Nursing Officers\, Emergency department directors\, Accreditation and regulation directors\, Nurse managers/supervisors\, Quality managers\, Risk managers\, Nurses\, Nurse educators\, Patient safety officers \nContinuing Education: The Kentucky Hospital Association is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN). KBN approval of a continuing nursing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content. This educational activity is offered for 1.2 contact hours\, with offering number      5-0023-12-25-053\, expiration date 12-31-2025. No partial credit will be given.
