SUMMARY:Kentucky Sepsis Consortium Webinar: How Technology Can Intersect with Improving the 3 Sepsis Metrics and Antimicrobial Stewardship
DESCRIPTION:KHA MEMBERS: CLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n\nNew rapid host response gene expression testing can address diagnostic uncertainty in suspected sepsis patients\, guiding clinical management after a sepsis alert. Implementing a higher accuracy test to differentiate sepsis from non-infectious systemic inflammation in the ED or post operatively can help to rule in or rule out sepsis and thus improve outcomes\, health care costs and antimicrobial stewardship. Additionally\, the alignment of host response testing with blood culture positivity enables clinicians to prioritize blood cultures for patients most likely to benefit\, reducing unnecessary testing\, contamination rates\, and laboratory costs. \nPresenter: Jane Louise Papadaki Markley\, VP Commercial Operations\, Immunexpress\nJane has 30 years of experience in the global clinical diagnostic marketplace\, holding leadership positions within large corporations such as Quest Diagnostics and also successful startups such as Asuragen. She has successfully pioneered new technologies for infectious diseases\, immunology\, oncology and genetic diseases\, overcoming market entry barriers and driving adoption through validation studies and educational campaigns. More recently with Immunexpress\, she has led the worldwide launch of SeptiCyte RAPID. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIdentify the challenges associated with triaging suspected sepsis patients when there is diagnostic uncertainty\nUnderstand how rapid host response testing can guide clinical decision making and improve CMS bundle compliance\nInterpret host response test results for likelihood of blood culture positivity\nExplain the role of an accurate and rapid host response test to impact anti-microbial stewardship

SUMMARY:KHA Quality Webinar: Peer-to-Peer Learning
DESCRIPTION:Please join the KHA quality team and Saint Joseph Hospital to take a deep dive into their journey of quality improvement project work to achieve excellence in patient care and outcomes. Please read more below for a detailed look at their project and what exciting information you will learn! \n\nKHA MEMBERS: CLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n\nSaint Joseph Hospital: Preventing the Preventable: Enhancing VTE Prophylaxis in Hospital Settings Through Pharmacy-Driven Intervention \nMonica Owen\, PharmD\, BCPS\, BCCCP\, Clinical Pharmacist Specialist and April Jennings\, DNP\, RN\, CPHQ\, HACP-CMS\, Director of Quality and Patient Safety from Saint Joseph Hospital will be presenting on their goal to enhance Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis in the hospital setting. This project represents a significant shift from a reactive to a proactive system-level approach for VTE prevention\, driven by real-time EHR data. By empowering clinical pharmacists with a standardized workflow and leveraging EHR reports for precise identification of at-risk patients. The significant improvement in VTE prophylaxis rates and the observed reduction in PE NPOA underscore the project’s clinical efficacy. This proven practice laid a strong foundation for permanent adoption across Saint Joseph Hospital and for widespread implementation within other CommonSpirit Health facilities in the South Region\, ultimately extending its positive impact on patient safety and VTE reduction on a broader scale. \n  \n

SUMMARY:KHA Quality Webinar: Emergency Services and Obstetrical Obligations: CMS Hospital Conditions of Participation 2025
DESCRIPTION:Emergencies happen every day in a hospital – and not just in the emergency department. Regardless of a hospital’s size or location\, provisions must be in place to address and treat emergency care issues for patients\, including obstetrical patients. Every hospital that has a dedicated emergency department and accepts Medicare and Medicaid payment must follow the federal law and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation Interpretive Guidelines on the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). Even hospitals without such emergency departments must comply with EMTALA if they have specialized capabilities; for example\, EMTALA can impact obstetrical patients and behavioral health patients. \nPlease join the KHA quality team in welcoming special guest speaker\, Laura Dixon\, BS\, JD\, RN\, CPHRM\, to discuss the above challenges.
