The Deaconess Student Nurse Academy provides nursing students with paid, hands-on clinical experience while they complete their nursing education. The program is designed for students enrolled in an accredited registered nurse (RN) program who have completed at least one semester of clinical training. Through temporary employment with Deaconess, participants gain practical experience in the hospital setting while building confidence in core nursing skills and professional communication.
Student participants work flexible schedules that accommodate academic commitments, with additional hours available during summer months and reduced hours during the academic year. Under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, students support patient care activities, practice fundamental clinical skills, and gain exposure to interdisciplinary care teams. The program also allows participants to build professional relationships with nursing staff and leadership while preparing for future employment opportunities. When students continue with Deaconess after graduation, they are eligible for additional benefits, including scholarship opportunities.
