MEMBERSHIP:

AHIMA the national organization for KHIMA recently changed their membership category to Active, Student and Honorary membership. Thus opening active membership to: Individuals interested in the AHIMA purpose and willing to abide by the Code of Ethics are eligible for active membership. Active Members in good standing shall be entitled to all membership privileges including the right to vote.

Student and Honorary membership remains the same.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the national organization, application for membership can be found at www.AHIMA.org, membership in the national association automatically gives you the opportunity to chose which State Association you want to join.

PURPOSE:

Section I:  The purpose of this association shall be to commit to excellence in the management of health information for the benefit of patients and providers, and to promote the mission and purpose of AHIMA within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Association is organized and operated exclusively for education purposes, all of which are exempt from taxation under #501 C (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and to do all other things deemed by the Board of Directors to be necessary or desirable in connection with these purposes and without limiting of the generality of the foregoing.

Section 2:  To promote this purpose the Kentucky Health Information Management Association (KHIMA )shall:

  1. Maintain a complete and current listing of all members, which list shall be confidential.
  2. Provide educational programs for the purpose of continuing education and professional development of members.
  3. Provide newsletters, e-mail alerts, KHIMA website or other sources to keep membership abreast of changes within the association and within the profession
  4. Conduct such other activities as may be consistent with the purposes as stated herein
  5. Provide scholarships to students meeting established criteria.
